MCP's 2026-07-28 spec goes stateless, dropping the handshake and session IDs
The Model Context Protocol's 2026-07-28 specification removes the initialize handshake and session IDs so each request stands alone, and adds HTTP headers for method and tool routing. It also replaces server-initiated requests with multi round-trip requests, deprecates dynamic client registration in favor of client ID metadata documents, and promotes Tasks to an official extension. For MCP server authors, these are breaking changes that require migration but make servers much easier to scale behind load balancers and gateways.
